I made a reservation for a patio table for 3 and when we arrived early, our table wasn't ready yet...but we were able to atleast get a drink at the bar before hand. Once they had our table available, the hostess walked us out and seated us in the middle of the patio. I noticed a table by the window/beach was being cleared and cleaned up and the host told me that we could move over there once it was clean so we were happy. Well, two seconds later another party was seated there...I spent 5 minutes contemplating what we should do. It was my birthday and I specially made reservations at this restaurant because I wanted the view. I was hoping the hostess would come back with a solution or atleast an apology but she didn't so I went and spoke to her. She looked at my like a deer in headlights and when I said "I'm not sure if you saw, but another party was seated there..." she said yes, I saw... okay so were you just going to let it be and not even apologize for promising us something? It was annoying. Luckily, another table near the window opened up and our server moved us over right away. I can't remember her name but she was a sweet elderly lady. Much more accommodating than the hostess. We started with the calamari and the coconut shrimp. Bothe were basically but tasty. My husband ordered the pork chop and my bestie and I ordered the short ribs. All three entrees were huge and so fulfilling. My husband really enjoyed the pork chop. It was a perfect medium rare. My bestie and I loved our short rib and my husband even said he should've ordered the short rib after tasting a bite - hahahahaha. The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. I really liked the carrots and mushrooms that were paired with mash potatoes. We all agreed that we wished the mash portion was a little bigger. It felt like the carb portion was small. Aside from the poor service at the start of our meal, the food really made up for it. The view is also incredible and really is the selling point of Poseidon.

Been coming here for years and it deserves to get 5 stars! It's always good and the service is great. The only complaint I have is that you guys changed the salmon. The last time I ordered my favorite salmon dish, instead of it being just plain grilled and healthy. It was breaded and tasted mushy. I was disappointed. This was back on April 13 this year. So last Wednesday I ordered the sea bass and it was to die for! My husband ordered the braised beef. The spicy margaritas are our favorite. Is there anyway you could go back to just plain grilled salmon please? Thank you! The ocean view is there from inside as well with the doors open! You must go! This is so much better than jakes next door. The view, the food, the drinks and the service all amazing! Love you guys! This is our favorite place! Just please fix the salmon!!

Haven't been here in over a decade. The restaurant is right on the beach (if you did not already know). Most people sit outside, like we did, and the indoor seating looks like a cruise because of the circular seating. I was impressed by the entrees. My friend had the scallops, for which she gave me one of the three big pieces. It was really tasty, not overcooked, and the mashed potatoes was surprisingly very creamy and flavorful. I ordered the chilean sea bass, which was also cooked very well, not over done, and moist. The calamari was different--steak in pieces, instead of the normal tenacles, which I actually prefer. The menu described some Thai chili sauce but there really was very little of that but instead a side of mayo/white sauce. Service was great. I liked our server, who brought me a creme brulee or my birthday. What I do not like is the $4/hr on the meters or $8 valet in the same lot. Don't forget that parking is enforced 24/7 for 365 days of the year.

Food: crab cakes are amazing. Flavorful, lovely, fresh. Fish and Chips: The chips were excellent, the fish was tasty just not the best I have had but good. Service: Busy but efficient and accommodating. Atmosphere: lovely and fun. Great location and friendly, lively. Enjoyed my dinner very much. Coming back in two weeks.

Food is expensive here and you're mainly here for the view (though the food is good). But I had a great experience today, and knew what I was paying for, so still happy to give five stars. Today was VERY HOT, so Del Mar was crazy crowded and it was hard to park. I was a little late and then one friend was late to get dropped off, and the last two people could not find parking and decided not to come. So I had reserved a prime beach-side patio table for 4 and we ended up being 2 people who were late. The waiter was still exceptionally nice and did not push me at all to order while I was waiting for my friends. I wish I got his name (tall, white, 30-something guy). I started with a mojito and the pistachio crusted brie. Both of them were four-stars; not must haves but refreshing. The brie is one of the better app values on the menu ($11). For entrees my friend got the avocado toast and I got the furikake ahi salad. I'd say four stars again for the ahi salad - not exceptional, but tasty and a healthy choice. Overall, once I got here, I had a fabulous time at one of my favorite treat spots, a place with the best combo of right-on-the-beach and food in San Diego. It's not cheap, but I appreciated very much how well we were treated even though we were half a table and late. I definitely will bring special guests here again or go myself when I am craving some time on the Poseidon patio, looking out at Del Mar Beach!

It was my 1st visit dining at this restaurant. I've been drawn to this restaurant after seeing it being advertised in the mail. Today, March 17, 2024 - I came here to celebrate my PRE- birthday tonight. I've ordered calamari that was listed as an appetizer for my dinner and I'll be honest the calamari was a little spicy, but it was tolerable. For Poseidon winning the 2023 award for BEST outdoor dining had to be the 2nd reason for me dining here besides it being on my Bucket List to have dined here. My friends absolutely loved this restaurant ., thanks to our waitress Lilah for taking good care of us from uncorking our wine and just making sure we had a good time dining in for dinner. Thank you so very much Poseidon for making my birthday EXTRA special

It's rare to find a restaurant in Southern California that is literally on the beach with a great view of the ocean. If that's what you're looking for then Poseiden is the place to go. This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit outside of LA and I am always tempted to stop on my way to San Diego or even make a special trip just to Del Mar for the restaurant. Service has always been kind and friendly. The food and drinks are very good. They might not be stellar but for the view and reasonable prices, you get much more than what you pay for. This visit, I ordered the Wild Seabass Ceviche and Seafood Cioppino. The ceviche was excellent and is large enough to be a small meal or appetizer for two. The cioppino had a surprising amount of fish and shrimp and was mighty tasty. The toasted garlic ciabatta was a perfect accompaniment and with my appetizer, far too much to eat. I had hoped to partake in dessert but I was too full...so I ordered a Bananas Foster cocktail! Chefs and menu items can change so you won't necessarily get exactly the same thing every time but I've never been disappointed in the quality so temptation continues...

First of all a beautiful view of the ocean and sand. The restaurant was busy put we were able to get in for a late breakfast. 4 of us split breakfasts and we were all here for the first time and the food was good. Nils was a good server and always came around to see if we wanted anything else. A short review but well worth going to again.

All class at this joint. They even have lights facing the beach so you can see the waves crashing at night. If you don't sit on the patio you're doing it wrong. Even if it's cold they have plenty of heaters. Obviously it's a seafood place but don't be afraid of the beef. I got the braised beef dish which was fantastic. The meat was perfect and the sauce was to die for. If you're worried about breaking the bank stick the domestic beers. Don't come here on a budget just cook at home if you're strapped for cash. Parking is a little tight but the valet is only $7.
